Wolves in the Throne Room appear from nowhere and they leave everyone absolutely impressed and intimidated

by the width and the imagination of your first album Diadem of 12 Stars.

Generally upon being confronted with a four track album almost everybody jump to the conclusion of EP, but

astonishingly, these four songs cover right over an hour worth of astonishingly bleak and phantasmagorial

black metal. They have created an album that suffocates you with its oppressively brooding atmosphere.

Diadem of 12 Stars offers more proof that an album doesn’t need the glossy sheen of pro tools or a big studio

budget to sound absolutely phenomenal and enrapture the listener in its misanthropic, organic sound. Granted

the treble and mid frequencies dominate, scooping the lows for a harsher sound, the disturbed ambiance of the

production fits the album perfectly. The vocals of Rick and Nathan expand beyond the usual snarl and rasp of

black metal...preserving a distinctive tension and ever changing interest throughout their epic material;

interspersed with the occasional death growl and alluring female vocals that actually adds beauty

to that depth...

Released on black vinyl double LP, and the rare limited edition was released in

green vinyl double LP.

A left winged black metal band deeply into ecology is simply not done, though Wolves in the Throne

"Two Hunters" (Southern Lord, 2007) is a perfect follow up for their "Diadem of 12 Stars" (Vendlus,

Following closely on the cape-covered heels of the vinyl-only Malevolent Grain EP, Wolves in the Throne

Room's LP Black Cascade (assumedly a reference to the band's birthing place, at the foot of the Cascade

Mountains in Washington state) finds the eco-spiritualist black metal ensemble further expanding its

psychedelic, deeply ritualistic sound. This one features new guitarist Will Lindsay (also of Middian),

who was added to the official band line-up after the release of the band's last epic, Two Hunters. It was

The Wolves music is rooted in the traditions of Black Metal, but they subvert the common aesthetic and ideology

in order to remain true to their own personal manifestations. Their strong convictions appropriately compliment

the confident decisive execution of their sound. This is the sound of paradox, ambiguity and confusion, Catharsis

is the objective, not a lilly-white and guilt free existence. Death and rebirth, transformation and enlightenment.

They believe that in Black Metal, there is great truth, transcendence and power.
