Todd Michael Hall's first stint as a lead singer was with the cover tune band Wrought Iron back in 1984 when he was 15 years old. After playing numerous shows in the mid-Michigan area, Todd left Wrought Iron and took a year off from performing.

Wrought Iron eventually changed its name to Harlet, but continued to perform as a cover tune band. After numerous line-up changes, Harlet began writing original music in 1986 when original Harlet members Jon David (bass) and Steve Axestorm (drums) recruited Todd back into the band on vocals along with Glenn Kirkland (guitar). This line-up recorded a five song EP cassette tape entitled Virgin Wings, which was independently released in early 1987.

Continuing the focus on original material, the band entered the studio to record a full length CD in the fall of 1987 with new guitar player, Tommy Botsford. The nine song CD and cassette, 25 Gets a Ride, was released in early 1988.

Jim Pagel joined Harlet as guitar player in 1990 and the band recorded a four song "demo" tape that was never officially released to the public. One song from the demo, Individual We Stand, was on disc two of a three disc CD Sampler handed out to music industry professionals at the 1990 Concrete Foundations Forum. The CD sampler included mostly signed and as well as some unsigned acts. A few of the notable acts included on the sampler were Queensryche, Warrant, Extreme, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Pantera, and Anthrax.

From 1987 through 1990, Harlet continued to play out on a regular basis doing a concert set of original material. In addition to locally promoted concerts and benefit shows, Harlet also played nightclubs in Detroit, Flint, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids. A regular on the Detroit nightclub scene, Harlet played Harpos, The Ritz, New York New York, Token Lounge, Blondies, I-Rock, and Limelight, opening for national acts such as Hades, Shok Paris, Seduce, Sleeze Bees, and Nitro among others.

Tod Walraven joined Harlet on guitar in 1991 at a time when the band started learning cover tunes as a way to increase the frequency of their shows, playing nearly every weekend from late 1991 through 1993.

By 1994, the band had quit playing cover tunes and gathered their original material for one more recording session. By this time, the band had swayed so much from the original Harlet vision that they felt the need to change the name of the band. Despite continuing on with new drummer, Rob Franz, and even releasing a 12-song CD, the name change to Pulling Teeth definitely marked the end of what people knew as Harlet.

In 2006 Todd, Jon, and Tod, joined by drummer Doug Julian, have reformed Harlet as a cover tune band playing mostly 80's metal songs at various clubs in the Michigan area on an infrequent basis just for the fun of playing.

Todd Michael Hall is the lead singer on Jack Starr's Burning Starr 2009 Album "Defiance"
